May 30th, 2025: Trump's tariffs blocked and other news
US Trade Court blocks Trump's tariffs (but he is fighting back), market forecasts and some suggestions...
Good morning from a rainy Speyside!
This is the big news from yesterday:
Trump’s tariffs blocked by US Trade Court
Here is the news by Lauren Bowes on The Spirits Business:
US court blocks Trump’s tariffs
The president of the United States is already fighting for its decision. Here is an article by Dietrich Knauth and Sarah Marsh on Reuters:
Trump's tariffs to remain in effect after appeals court grants stay
And this is the side story, about a small wine importer who helped halt the tariffs (on the Wall Street Journal, by Ruth Simon and James Fanelli):
How a Small Wine Importer Took On Trump’s Tariffs
We all feel a little parte of the story don’t we?
And now, forecasts…
Global alcoholic drinks sector to grow by US$16 billion by 2034
Data come from the International Wine and Spirits Research (IWSR) and are reported by Jessica Mason on The Drinks Business:
Alcoholic drinks industry to grow US$34 billion by 2034
I don’t know if the news is worth considering, but I think it is worth reading anyway. IWRS is a well respected data provider and such reports are very useful for media who are always looking for reliable news. However, please do remember that forecasts are based on numbers and statistics but nobody has a crystal ball to read the future. According to this report, developing markets like India and Brazil should be playing an important role for the growth of the industry. It’s fine, but there’s much more to learn about those countries if you look deeper, as this brilliant post on Commercial Spirits Intelligence reports:
This blog by Martin Purvis and Duncan McFadzean and it is worth following.
So please, think twice about every news you read and try to look for more information to build up your mind about it. Do not stop at simple opinions. I know social media do not help, that’s why I’m trying to do my best, suggesting more readings.
Let me know what you think about this.
Have a great weekend!
